Location.
Manicou River is on the North West coast of the island just 10 mins north of the town of Portsmouth. Up on the mountainside we are remote enough to feel you’re getting away from it all but close enough to town to enjoy the local shops, restaurants and bars.
Portsmouth is Dominica’s ‘second city’ and provides access to pretty much everything you might need from a town while on the island – bank, supermarket, local shops, petrol station – but has a distinctly local, laid-back Caribbean feel.
The community is exceptionally friendly. In the evenings small bars and restaurants are lively and welcoming. Every day local fishermen sell their fresh catch by the roadside and market stalls offer a great variety of quality, locally-grown produce. The Portsmouth town market every Saturday morning is an event not to be missed.
Tantane Beach is about 5mins drive or a 25 minute walk (not too bad on the way down but quite a stiff hike on the way back up). It is a beautiful little bathing beach with warm, calm water, grey volcanic sand and some of the best snorkelling on the island.
What our guests say...
"Close to town, yet far enough that you feel you are away from things."
"We ventured around the island, and were glad we stayed in the Portsmouth area rather than down south or east. Portsmouth is more quaint, less crowded."
"Its location outside of Portsmouth is also ideal, as we were high above and removed from the "hustle & bustle" yet could easily drive to many local waterfall hikes and snorkel spots"
